Bessie’s Bees aren’t just buzzing, they’re doing triple loop the loops with double inverted alternating twizzle-spins! Why?
They’ve just found out that they’ve all been shortlisted for this year’s The Queens Knickers Award!

Awarded by The Society of Authors and Illustrators the Queen’s Knickers Award is an annual prize Sponsored by its founder Nicholas Allan, for an outstanding children’s original illustrated book for ages 0-7. It recognises books that strike a quirky, new note and grab the attention of a child, whether in the form of curiosity, amusement, horror or excitement.

Judge, Jasmine Richards said: “The shortlisted books all have something in common - they trust the reader to handle some big ideas and yet they deliver those ideas lightly and deftly. This shortlist made for a long and passionate debate because we connected to so many of the books but ultimately we were looking for the stories that we believe children would want to return to time and time again. We chose books that are just as quirky and distinctive as the readers they will delight.
Bessie just couldn’t be prouder; she’s never been described as ‘deft’ before. Daft yes, deft no! but it’s amazing what she and her bees can achieve when they all buzz together.
Bessie and her bees make the best team, and it’s taken the best team to bring this story to life, including brilliant illustrator Ana Gomez and the wonderful team that got behind the story at my publisher Templar.
